How a bespoke oak commission comes together for you.

From first enquiry to final delivery, the process is built to be clear and personal. Every decision is made with you, shaped around the room, the oak, and how the piece will be lived with.

From first message to final placement.

01Initial Enquiry

Share your room and idea.

Start with the piece you need, where it will live, and any rough dimensions, photos, or references you already have. There is no wrong way to begin.

Helpful to include
  • Room photos
  • Approximate measurements
  • Preferred furniture type
  • Finish preferences
  • Budget range
  • Ideal timeframe
02Direction

We shape the direction.

Edward reviews the details and advises on proportions, oak selection, finish, the practical considerations, and whether the project is a good fit for the studio.

Note

Early guidance on proportion, oak finish, and the practical considerations.

03Proposal & Estimate

You receive a proposal and estimate.

Once the direction is clear, we put together a proposal setting out the piece, dimensions, oak finish, estimated cost, and expected timeframe.

Includes
  • Furniture type and design direction
  • Approximate or confirmed dimensions
  • Oak finish and material notes
  • Estimated cost
  • Expected timeframe
  • Delivery or installation notes
04Approval & Making

Approval and making.

Once you approve the proposal, we confirm the final details and book the piece in. Boards are selected, cut, jointed by hand, and hand-finished in solid oak.

05Delivery or Installation

Delivery or installation.

Finished furniture is wrapped and delivered UK-wide. Built-in and fitted pieces are arranged separately, depending on access, location, and installation requirements.

Note

Delivery is planned around the piece, the route into the home, and the final placement.

Timeframes depend on the piece.

How long a commission takes depends on its scale and detail. A smaller freestanding piece can start within a few weeks, while larger cabinets, oak dining tables, and built-in projects need a longer window on the bench.

We will always agree the expected timeframe with you before a commission is confirmed.

Pricing reflects material, scale, and detail.

Every piece is priced on its own, because size, oak selection, joinery, finish, and delivery all feed into the final cost. There is no fixed price list for bespoke work.

After your first enquiry we can usually give a broad figure before we prepare a more detailed proposal.

If you are unsure about budget, put a range in the enquiry form and we will tell you honestly what is realistic.

  • Furniture type and dimensions
  • Oak selection and grain
  • Finish and surface treatment
  • Joinery and construction detail
  • Delivery or installation

Questions worth asking.

No. Rough dimensions are plenty to begin with: a wall length paced out, or a table you would like to match. Photos and a short description of what you need get us started, and we confirm exact measurements before anything is made.

Yes, always. Once the design, size, finish, and details are agreed, you receive a written proposal with a price before any work is confirmed. Nothing is made, and no deposit is taken, until you are happy with it.

Usually, yes. For confirmed commissions a deposit is taken so the oak can be ordered and your slot on the bench booked in. The balance is paid on completion, before delivery.

Yes. Photos tell us a great deal, especially for storage, built-ins, and media units, or any piece that has to sit beside existing flooring, walls, or furniture. A wide shot plus a close-up of nearby finishes is ideal.

Fitted projects are handled case by case. Whether we install depends on the piece, your location relative to Derby, access to the room, and the site itself. We work all of that out with you before confirming.

Often, yes. With a photo or a sample we can work a stain and finish towards a tone that sits comfortably beside existing furniture, flooring, or joinery. A perfect match is not always possible across different timbers, and we will be straight with you about that.

It varies with size and complexity. A small piece may take a few weeks, a large table or fitted project noticeably longer. We give you a realistic production window before the commission is confirmed, and keep you posted as it progresses.
